Gandantegchinlen Khiid Monastery in Ulan Bator

Its name means Great Place of Complete Joy. It is in the center of Ulan Bator.

Like many monasteries in Mongolia, it was heavily destroyed in the late 1930s. It was reopened in 1944, and the cult restrictions were lifted in the 1990s.

It is a paradise for pigeons.

There is a hudge sculpture inside the monastery. And monks do read prayers whenever requested.

I love the way the green is taken care of. Let's the nature rule :-) No seriously, in a land where water is short, a bristish-like green would be a crime, wouldn't it be?
